“Most times, parents train their female child to be poor without knowing it.”

When I made this assertion, most ladies asked: “What do you mean?” “I don’t understand” “Explain more” etc. This shows how strange it’s to their imagination and also how the statement is very true because it’s already like a cycle that one could not break away from; it’s a normal life. They are not aware.

Let’s turn to the right direction.

Often, you hear parents say to their boy child, “Is this how you will feed your family?” By this, they are referring to hardwork, technical know-how and the accompanying initiative. Yet, it’s very rare to see parents who say such to their girl child; what you normally hear is, “you are a lady, behave yourself.”

Objectively, it’s very okay to train your boy child to be hardworking but also it’s very okay to train your boy child to be respectful. On the other hand, it’s very okay to train your girl child to be respectful such as it’s still very okay to train your girl child to be hardworking, etc.

The world of today and especially Nigeria, is no longer the one where only the man fends for the family. Nowadays, one source of income is dangerous.

Moreover, it’s because of such training mindset that most ladies who are not yet married see it as a must that they have to hook unto a man/men in order to survive without having any entrepreneuring initiative of their own. Some are even scared of venturing into genuine entrepreneurship because they were already wired from childhood to be provided for and not otherwise.

Parents and guidians, train your girl child not only to be respectful but also to be hardworking because even if the fending husband dies, or becomes financially incapable, the family burden would also be on her.
