The LORD cares in His Angels
Baruch 4:5-12,27-29
Psalm 68:33-37
Matthew 18:1-5,10
The first reading Baruch 4:5-12,27-29, shows so much how God is interested in the affairs of the Israelites; God is like a Father and Mother to them and they in turn behave like children towards Him.
As children, they transgressed and God punished them. Yet, as a Father, God chastised and flogged them with one hand and draw them back with a pat with another hand; He so much cares.
We are children of God in Christ Jesus(John 1:12).
In the Gospel reading Matthew 18:1-5,10, Jesus who is God points so much to being a child as a criterium for entrances into heaven.
Is Jesus not Correct?
Yes, Jesus Christ is very correct because without being a child at heart we can’t relate with God as a Father. Thus, being a child is a source of greatness in God’s kingdom because of what comes out of such a relationship with God. One can call GOD, Abba.
A child is marked out with the attitude of obedient service. So, the pure spirits, the angels, who are heavenly beings possess this attitude and that’s why they can serve, even human beings. That is humility.
Humility and service go so much together. For a humble person can easily serve and merit glory. Such glory then in this parlance partains also to merit in heaven.
Because of the relationship between us and God, as Father and children, God cares so much for us in every details unimaginable to us.
This is why it’s reasonable to understand that God cares in His angels such that everyone of us has a holy guardian angel.
As God’s children, our guardian angels in heaven are continually in the presence of our Father in heaven(Matt 18:10).
So, it is very correct when the psalmist says that the Lord listens to the needy. We are the needy, in need of God’s care.
Let us use this feast to remind ourselves that each of us has an angel of our very own looking after us; and also to pray to God for our own Guardian Angel.
May we too imitate the Holy Guardian Angels in humble service, in order to merit heaven.
